The following is a list of the programs available from Stars, Mars & More. School programs are aligned to the National Science Education Standards and can be altered to accommodate your special needs.  All programs include a brief discussion of the current night sky.   Special program topics are available upon request.

 
 

 

Preschool-K


Make a Tornado

 This program teaches students the basics about tornadoes and waterspouts.
 Students make a tornado in a bottle during this presentation.
Free bottle connectors are provided to each student.
 

Shapes in the Sky

Children look for familiar shapes and pictures among
the stars and listen to stories about the pictures.
 

The Sun’s Neighborhood

Children learn about the sun’s neighborhood which
includes the sun, moon, and planets.

Grades 1-6


     Greek and Roman Mythology    

 This program is a blend of astronomy and ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
The principle Greek and Roman gods are presented in a lively interactive format.


 Make a Tornado

 This program teaches students the basics about tornadoes and waterspouts.
 Students make a tornado in a bottle during this presentation.
Free bottle connectors are provided to each student.


Meet the Constellations

Students are introduced to the star patterns called constellations
that early stargazers imagined as they observed the stars.
 

Native American Star Legends

Students see the nighttime sky as seen through the eyes of several
Native American cultures including the Navajo, Cherokee, and Hopi tribes.
 

Explore the Planets

Students are presented with the latest information gathered by NASA
space probes about both the inner and outer planets of the solar system.
 

Life Styles of the Stars

This program teaches students the relationship between star
temperature and color and how stars are born, live, and die.  Students
are taken on an imaginary voyage to the stars to explore star formation.
 

Mystery of the Missing Seasons

This entertaining program teaches students how the length of day and
 the changing angle of the sun results in Earth’s changing seasons.
 

Stones from Space

Stones from space hit the Earth every day. Students learn about
these spectacular visitors from space. Meteorite samples are provided for
students to handle.  The program also introduces students to the icy visitors
called comets and concludes with a realistic comet demonstration.
 

Mars: Mysteries of the Red Planet

The planet Mars stirs the imagination like no other planet.  Students
explore the red planet by observing the latest photographs and
data gathered from past and present NASA Mars missions.

The Stars of the Pharaohs

     This program is a blend of astronomy, mythology, and history. It shows a dramatic representation of the constellations as seen by the Egyptian pharaohs including King Tut.


 

Grades 7-12


Stars and Constellations

Students learn about the zodiac, circumpolar, and seasonal constellations
visible from the Northern Hemisphere. Polaris, the North Star, and several
other bright stars are discussed during this presentation.
 

Reasons for the Seasons

This lessons invites students to observe how the daily path of the sun
changes throughout the year. The observations and data collected by students
help explain the causes of the seasons from an Earth point of view.
 

Moon Phases and Eclipses

Students discover the reasons moon phases and eclipses
occur by using models of the sun, moon, and Earth.
 

Asteroids, Comets, and Meteorites

Students explore the icy and rocky material found in the solar
system.  Meteorite samples are provided for students to handle.
The program also includes a comet demonstration.
 

The Solar System

Students are presented with the latest information gathered by NASA
